You can use a Repair Hammer to gain two main advantages:
- Repair items more quickly (recover more HPs per second) by completing a mini-game
- Pull repair resources from the
Ship Resources Box when making repairs aboard ship
One limitation of a Repair Hammer is that you cannot use it to repair sail canvasses. For that, keep a handful of some type of 
Fibers in your inventory, which include 
Bamboo, Cotton, Fibers (generic), 
Hemp, 
Jute, 
Seaweed, 
Silk and 
Straw, and use the context menu (default press or hold e) on a mast.
Note: winning at the mini game is only really useful in combat. Since it increases the amount of HP gained per tick it can help you stay afloat by making repairs as quickly as possible once the no-repair timer has elapsed. Otherwise, feel free to just ignore the mini game if the speed of repairs doesn't matter in your current situation.
