Overview

Ice Box is a utility structure with high insulation used for generating ice in cold areas, for cooling warm areas and is usable as a water supply.

Usage

Area Cooling

The Ice Box has an “active” mode that will drain ice and reduce the surrounding temperature (reverse fire). It consumes less ice if indoors.

Ice Production

The Ice Box will produce Ice Ice while in cold regions when not in its activated area cooling mode. Ice Ice is produced at the rate of 1 every 30 real minutes (estimated but nearly accurate).

Although 32° degrees F (0° C) is technically freezing, the Ice Box will not produce Ice Ice until the ambient temperature is equal or less than 31° degrees F. (-.5° C). When producing Ice Ice there is a displayed multiplier on the pop-up tool tip. The multiplier is how much faster than the base speed of Ice Ice production it is currently producing at. Generally, as a rule-of-thumb, the multiplier increases by one full point for every degree below the maximum production temperature. This means that utilizing an Ice Box in the File:Polar.png Polar Regions is usually more beneficial than perhaps a File:Tundra.png Tundra Region. Also, the effects of Cold Fronts and Heat Waves will benefit or compromise production based on which one is active and what time of the day.

An Ice Box can be placed in any region but will NOT produce ice in an File:Equatorial.png Equatorial Region.

Ice Info

The Ice Ice generated by the Ice Box decays relatively quickly if not in insulated storage. Ice Ice can be consumed to reduce temperature and half the negative effects of armor weight debuffs for a short duration (15s per ice cube, max of 5 mins). Ice can be placed inside preserving bags to extend spoil times, and also lasts much longer in preserving bags than in regular inventory (but not as long as in the Ice Box Ice Box. It is relatively heavy.
