Taming
Bola tamed with earthworms. If you do not have access to earthworms, however, you can use berries. Be aware that the taming time will be much longer compared to the earthworms.
A useful method for taming is using a cage and grappling hook. Place a cage near your desired tame and grappling hook it when it lands. Use the grappling hook's to drag the crow to where you're walking. Walk behind the cage and pull the crow inside, then unhook the grappling hook and run inside. Use a spyglass to hit the crow until it's low enough to bola, then feed as normal. When the tame is almost free, use the grappling hook on it again. This will cause the crow to be immediately grounded upon waking up, preventing it from glitching through the cage and freeing itself. Simply repeat the spyglass / bola process until tamed. If you are unable to place a Cage in the area but have another player nearby, have one player grapple while the other hits with the spyglass and bolas the crow. The grapple will prevent it from flying off. Keep in mind that the grappling hook will only last for a certain length of time, so be prepared to grapple again if you need to drag it a long distance to your cage.
An easier method, and one that actually works on PvE servers, is to damage the crow and lead it to an area out of range of enemy foundations where you can place a structure. Then continue to damage it until its health is in the red and it is circling crazily over your head and Bola it. If it flies away before then just stand still and wait for it to return, then spin up the bola, aim slightly above its head, and release the bola once it's 20 or 30 meters from you. Once the bird is on the ground, place a Wood Fence Support, four Thatch Walls (one with a doorway in it), a Thatch Ceiling (place after the first wall and then hang the last three walls down from it) and a Thatch Door. Then climb inside with the trapped bird and tame it in safety and within the comforts of your little taming hut. Once you're done politely demolish the structure and enjoy your new super-smart-ifying pet.
Utility
Crows are a shoulder pet that grants a boost to Intelligence. A level 1 Crow gives your Intelligence a +10.4% boost. A level-capped (130+) Crow gives your Intelligence a +60% boost.
They dramatically slow falling and reduce fall damage when on a player's shoulder. (Tested on a fall that dealt 110 damage without one and 2 damage with.) NOTE: This is no longer the case at least as of v207.8. Since no one has thus far reported seeing patch notes about this, we do not know if it is a bug or a feature.
Breeding
You can Breed Crows in the following biomes: Eastern Tropics, Western Temperate, Eastern Temperate, Eastern Tundra, Western Tundra, Polar, High Desert, Low Desert.
Acceptable temperatures for Crow mating and offspring are between 15-33°C (59-91°F).
Egg Incubation Temperatures for Crows are between 32-43°C (90-109°F). Incubation takes about an hour.
Although one might assume baby and juvenile crows would require Animal Meat to eat, they will in fact eat Potato (and likely other crops), which makes it significantly more convenient to rear them. This is due to the fact you can dig up Potato with a Shovel, they are easy to grow by farming, they decay more slowly per piece (2h:30m) than Animal Meat (10m) and stack to 100 rather than Animal Meat's stacks of 20 (meaning a full stack of Potato takes 10d:10h hours to decay while a full stack of Animal Meat will decay in only 3h:20m).
While your new pet is a baby you will need to hand feed it, so you can't leave for more than a few minutes without risking it running out of food. Although it will slowly increase its capacity over time, at first it will only be able to carry enough weight to hold seven units of food. If you are feeding it Animal Meat, it will eat one unit about every 30 seconds. If you are feeding it Potato, it will eat one unit every 1m:30s. That means you can be away for about 3m:30s or 10m:30s respectively.
The baby phase should last about 2h:30m or so. Once your baby crow becomes a juvenile, keep a Feeding Trough full of Potato nearby and you will only need to return when it is time to cuddle with your new friend. And the Feeding Trough quadruples the decay time of food stored in it, further saving you resources and meaning any uneaten stacks of crops will take 41d:16h to lose their last item.
Combat
Long weapons like spears and pikes work well against crows; Giraffes do extremely well against them.
