Overview[edit]

ATLAS provides the ability to tame wild animals and pet or domesticate them.

  • Most of the creatures in ATLAS are tamable via either the passive or Bola.png Bola methods (described below).
  • Dragons can only be tamed for a limited period of time using a tame token which can be purchased from a Merchant Ship or on the Vendors in Freeport for (alot of) Gold Coin.png Gold Coin.
  • You cannot tame on Freeport servers.

To Tame you need to Unlock the Taming Tiers in 20x20px Beastmastery Beastmastery Beastmastery Discipline Skill tree.

How to tame[edit]

General[edit]

This is how Taming works, the differences between the two main methods are described blow.

  • Animals have prefered food for Taming, see Table () , also when skilled in taming, a onscrean string tells what the perfered food is.
  • Put the most prefered available food for the species in itemslot 0 (most right).
  • To Feed, get in position to feed and press e.
  • After feed there is a timer (when in feeding postition) which tells how long until the next feed.
  • A animal's tame meter (lowest entry in animal infobox) is showing the progress. May need to change view to make it visable.
  • Each feed progress, taking to long between feed regress.
  • When animal's tame meter reach 100, the taming was successful, and the tame can be named (Name can be changed at anytime).
  • Progress per feed depends on Level of the Animal, fed food, Server Rate for taming.

Preperation for harder animals[edit]

  • Make sure to kill all aggressive animals around the spot the tame shell happen.
  • Be good on Food and Water, Equilibrium.png Equilibrium helps with damage mitigration.
  • Have a (repaired) Bow.png Bow and enough Stone Arrow.png Stone Arrows.
  • Have food to feed in quantities.
  • Be prepared to kill aggressive animals while taming.
  • Wear Plate Armor or at least Fur Armor.
  • When unexperienced, bringing 25 Bolas is a good startingpoint. Some will miss. Later the amout of Bolas will be known.

Passive Taming[edit]

Passive taming is straigth forward, see General.

  • Some animals will become untameable for a time when aggroed tho. Crouching c helps to avoid that

Bola Taming[edit]

Most of Tier 2 and all Tier 3 Animals are tamed by using a Bola.png Bola.

  • The Bola prevent the animal from moving, because it is knocked to the ground.
  • The animals health has to be below 20% to be bolaed
  • There is an indicator if health is low enogh when a bola is held.
  • There is an indicator for the remaining bola duration.
  • Find the sweet feed spot, see below.
  • Feed whenever possible (feed timer is out).
  • When bola breaks (bola timer runs out), the animal is free again, regenerate some health and will start attacking.
  • lower health and bola again.
  • Continue Bolaing, multipe fed, until taming is done.
  • While boladed the health can be reduced by attacking between feedings.
  • The position the animal fell in can prevent feeding when it clips into something. Then the bola can be released manually (e), to bola again in a better position, whitout losing to much progression.

Tips for finding the sweet feed spot[edit]

Taming harder animals for the first time can be very frustating. They deal alot of damage, so some death will be unavoidable if not done right.

  • Trying on a low level might help, they deal less damage.
  • Wear a Wooden Shield.png Wooden Shield or Heavy Shield.png Heavy Shield. Press r to get in combat, then leftcontrol for blocking. Only to it when necessary, it consumes alot of Stamina.png Stamina and Durability of the Shild. By pressing r again, combat can be left on command.
  • Go behind the animal to the side the head is heading.
  • Approach slowly (while bocking, or crouched), going to the belly (between the legs), aiming at the spine towards neck/backhead rather then the mouth.
  • while approching, change view up down, left right abit.
  • If the animal starts attacking, you went to far (to the mouth side).
  • Eating a Tara'Nosti Treat.png Tara'Nosti Treat is geat when taking a occasional Hit, it boosts Health Regeneration to ~ 1HP/sec. It works while taming. Also Alcohol helps for damage mitigration.
  • Bigger animals like Elephant and Giraff breath heavyly, so the spot is lost sometimes. The Elefant also rarely move your position. Both require slight reposition.
  • Cheat and see Gallery

Practical Taming from a Tame[edit]

Here we use a Tame (with high HP) to tank the soon to be tame while lowering its health.

  • Prepare as described before
  • Before aggroing the animal, or right after, set the Behavior of your Tame to Neutral. It shell not attack on its own.
  • Kite the animal to a nice falt spot with good overview. Should be scouted and cleared before.
  • Lower the health of the animal with tame attacks (left or right click).
  • When animal health is low enough for bola, stop attacking, switch to bola and bola it (while mounted).
  • Ride the Tame away abit (Heal it if you can/ have to 20x20px Nature's Touch).
  • Feed the animal, be aware of the environment, you have to protect both your Tame and the animal.
  • During one Bola duration you can heal your tame again if necessary.
  • Mount Tame before Bola breaks, continue with bola and feed.

Practical Taming with a trap[edit]

If no Tame is available, to use the taming form a Tame method, a trap can be used. The Trap is either a dedicated building or a natural trap like terrain slope/holes or vegetation like bamboo trees.

Its main purpose is to prevent the animal to do damage, also the animal can not flee.

While playing Gamename you will have seen some example of build traps. The smalles one is a 2 by 3 foundation with doorways all around. On (2x) side can have a small gate instead of the doorways. On at lease one side roofs are leading into the trap. For bigger traps, large gates are used. Tame with a trap:

  • Kite Animal inside, it has to go through the Gate or over the roof.
  • Lower health with bow (best to use a common one).
  • Bola animal when in a good position.
  • Feed and repeat when bola breaks.
  • When animal is bolaed in a bad position, so that feeding is prevented or can only be done with taking damage. Release Bola premature manually.
  • When no Gate is used, demolish one doorway after successful tameing.
  • It would also be a good idea to have someone watch your back and deal with the roaming predators as you work.

Taming and Levels[edit]

Wild Level[edit]

The resulting Level (Wild Level) of the Tame is its Level before the taming + the Levels stated under Taming Effectiveness. Which is Level before taming /2 rounded up -1.

A Level 30 before taming will result in a 44 Wild Level Tame. A Level 11 before taming will result in a 16 Wild Level Tame.

Tame Level[edit]

The tame will gain XP in several ways, passivly over time, by farming and by killing stuff.

When a XP threshold is reached the tame gain a Tame Level. The owning company can chose where to put a skill point for each level.

Each subsequent Level requires more XP, so it becomes harder to gain a Level.

Max Level[edit]

The Max Level depends on the Wild Level, it is Wild Level * 2 + 30. So for a level 30 before taming it is (30+14)*2 + 30 = 118
